1st Day of Summer...

...And the Pacific Northwest is actually dishing up some sun! Considering the LONG, drearier than normal spring we've had, this is really a big deal for us.

As you can see, The Spotted One is celebrating by snoozing in the sun, on MY pillows. He NEVER snoozes on my pillows, he always prefers The Bearded One's pillows.

On to FWQAL (Farmer's Wife Quilt Along). I have six more blocks completed, bringing my total to12.

Block #7 - Birds in the Air
This block contains 40 pieces! Whew! Those little half square triangle units finish at 1".

Block #8 - Bouquet

Block #9 - Box

Block #10 - Bowtie

Block #11 - Broken Dishes

Block #12 - Broken Sugar Bowl

I know it looks like I've been super productive but I have to admit, the last five shown here were all precut and assembled at my weekly Tuesday quilting group.

Caught Up

I couldn't stop yesterday, I had to make two more blocks for the Farmer's Wife QAL.

Block #5 - Bat Wing

Block #6 - Double Dipper

As I was sewing Block #6 I realized I had made a dumb mistake cutting out the pieces. I was not paying enough attention to the fact that these were NOT half-square triangles but were quarter square triangles. Unfortunately all my sides edges are not on the straight of grain. Thankfully, because I've started using non-aerosol Niagra starch on all my quilting fabrics before cutting them out, the bias edges behaved themselves. Note to self -- pay attention to straight of grain. I'm blaming this faux pas on the fact that game seven of the Stanley Cup Playoffs was about to begin. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Now I need to drag myself away from the sewing machine and go paint the new trim for the downstairs hallway.....

I Couldn't Help Myself

Heavy sigh.....I've started yet another project. For over a year I've been adding to my stash of 30's prints to use them in making The Farmer's Wife sampler quilt.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I started seeing mention of a Farmer's Wife Quilt Along on Flickr. I decided this might be just the push I needed to work on this project. Just two blocks a week isn't too time consuming. It will allow me more than enough time to work on other projects while actually making some progress on this one.

So, once I got the templates sorted out, I'll save that story for next time, I managed to get the first four blocks completed in no time at all. Two more blocks and I will be caught up with the QAL.

Block #1 - Attic Windows

Block #2 - Autumn Tints

Block #3 - Basket

Block #4 - Basket Weave

He Thinks He's Helping....

The last 4 days were spent on the couch doing nothing more strenuous than blowing my nose and working on hexagons while listening to an audio book and the sounds of The Bearded One working on a home improvement project. Great time to get sick, huh? I think I timed that one just right. Anyway, I decided it was time to lay out these hexie flowers and try to figure out how to start squaring up this project which is currently hexagon shaped. A certain Spotted One felt it was his duty to "help". After convincing him, rather reluctantly to move, this was his compromise:

I know when I'm beat so I gave up and went back to making more flowers.

On another note, the mail brought a nice surprise.

Victoria of Bumble Beans had a drawing for Heather Peterson's new book and I won! There are some great ideas in here and I can't wait to try some of them.
